Rules for bicycle safety
Reviewing the rules for bicycle safety can be a fun activity, especially if you have a bike available for children to demonstrate and practice the skills:
What you need: paper plates, finger paint, paper, leaves
1: Obey all traffic signs and signals.
2: Ride single file on the right side, with the flow of traffic.
3: Ride in a straight line. Don’t do stunts.
4: Use proper hand signals when in traffic.
5: Slow down and look carefully before crossing intersections.
6: Be alert. Watch for other vehicles.
7: Don’t shoot out of alleys and driveways.
8: Give pedestrians the right of way.
9: Don’t carry another rider.
10: Don’t hitch onto cars and trucks.
11: Be sure your bike has good brakes and a warning bell.
12: If riding at night, have a headlight on the front and a red reflector on the back.
13: Always wear a helmet.
